Inverell

Inverell Airport is located 17km (a 20 minute drive) from the town centre via Bundarra Road and Guyra Road. Inverell is situated on the Macintyre River in northern New South Wales and known as the “Sapphire City”. The town and surrounding area supplies approximately 80% of the world’s sapphires, and is a great place to try your luck at fossicking and learning how these special stones are processed. The Goonoowigall State Conservation Are is a special wilderness region with low hills, large granite boulders and is home home to 120 species of native birds. The area is in a fertile agricultural zone producing oats, barley, wheat and wine grapes. The Copeton and Pindari Dams provide a great opportunity to pull in a variety of different fish, or head into the water for sailing and skiing and unwind by the campfire and soak in the beautiful surrounding landscape.
