Checked Baggage


We will provide you with a free Checked Baggage Allowance as part of your ticket. Your free Baggage allowance is determined by your aircraft type, your cabin class of travel and applicable fare rules. Our Checked Baggage allowances for adults and children (except infants) are as follows:

What not to include in your Checked Baggage

You must not include in your Checked Baggage:

  • cash, credit cards, deeds, passports and other travel documents, securities, business documents or other valuable documents;
  • jewellery, antiques, precious metals or similar valuable items;
  • any item of a delicate, fragile or brittle nature e.g. glassware, sports equipment, musical instruments;
  • any item of a perishable nature e.g. seafood;
  • medicines;
  • electrical or electronic components e.g. computers, cameras; or
  • any item that has insufficient packaging to withstand the normal circumstances and effects of carriage by air.

For each infant travelling with an adult and not occupying their own seat, three infant items, weighing up to a maximum total of 23kg, can be carried free of charge. Infant items may include: one car seat or baby capsule, one collapsible stroller or push chair or one collapsible cot or bassinet. Charges will apply for any baggage carried in addition to the Checked Baggage allowance and additional items. For operational reasons, Passengers wishing to check any of the Infant Items identified above are required to notify us or an Authorised Agents, prior to booking.

Mobility equipment allowance^

Mobility equipment may include both Mobility Aids and Assistive Devices.

Mobility Aids include (but are not limited to):

  • wheelchairs (day or sports);
  • electric wheelchairs; and
  • electric scooters.

Assistive Devices include (but are not limited to):

  • walking frames, hoists;
  • inflatable pressure cushions; and
  • shower chairs and commodes.

One piece of mobility equipment per person will be carried free of charge as checked baggage in addition to the normal checked baggage allowance above, subject to the following:

  • the equipment must not exceed 120kg per piece;
  • equipment above 120kg is subject to prior approval (contact reservations@linkairways.com) and additional fees for each additional kilogram over the entitled allowance will apply;
  • the equipment must be for your own use (or the use of a Passenger whom you are accompanying, for example a child);
  • must be of the following dimensions, or be capable of being dismantled into pieces not exceeding these dimensions: width 100cm, height 84cm and length 125cm; and
  • if you wish to check in more than one piece of mobility equipment, the additional pieces will form part of your checked baggage allowance and excess charges will apply if your applicable allowance is exceeded.

Excess and oversize baggage±

Baggage which is excess to, bigger or heavier (oversize), than your free Checked Baggage allowance, will be considered excess and/or oversized Baggage; this may include sporting goods or pets (refer below). For operational reasons we ask that you provide details of any excess or oversize Baggage at the time of booking. The following charges will apply (either at the time of booking or at the airport if a declaration is not made at the time of booking) for any Baggage in excess of your allowance:

An oversize charge will apply at the airport if any piece of Checked Baggage exceeds the weight of your entitled allowance. No single item of Baggage may exceed 32kg. Subject to operational restrictions and uplift availability, excess or oversized Baggage may not be carried on the same service as you. We will endeavour to place your excess or oversized Baggage on the next available flight but make no guarantee this will occur. Unless we state otherwise:

  • dollars or ‘$’ is a reference to Australian dollars; and
  • all dollar amounts include any applicable GST.

Bicycles

  • limited to non-motorized single seat and one maximum per passenger;
  • bike boxes are the preferred method of packaging;
  • if a bike box is not supplied, handlebars will need to be turned in, pedals and front wheel removed from front forks and strapped to rear wheel, and chain suitably protected;
  • each item of equipment represents one piece of Checked Baggage;
  • considered part of the Checked Baggage allowance and can be carried free if the passenger’s total Checked Baggage is within the entitled allowance; and
  • when carried in addition to the entitled allowance, excess and/or oversize Baggage charges apply.

Golf equipment

  • exempt from the normal 140cm total linear dimension restriction;
  • each item of equipment represents one piece of Checked Baggage;
  • considered part of the Checked Baggage allowance and can be carried free if the passenger’s total Checked Baggage is within the entitled allowance; and
  • when carried in addition to the entitled allowance, excess and/or oversize Baggage charges apply.

Pets

  • Only Service Animals can be carried into the passenger cabin of the aircraft; and
  • Other domestic animals cannot currently be accepted for travel on our aircraft (either in the passenger cabin or cargo hold).

Skis

  • exempt from the normal 140cm total linear dimension restriction;
  • each item of equipment represents one piece of Checked Baggage;
  • considered part of the Checked Baggage allowance and can be carried free if the passenger’s total Checked Baggage is within the entitled allowance; and
  • when carried in addition to the entitled allowance, excess and/or oversize Baggage charges apply.

Surfboards

  • exempt from the normal 140cm total linear dimension restriction but the maximum permitted length is 2m due to aircraft cargo hold constraints;
  • each item of equipment represents one piece of Checked Baggage;
  • considered part of the Checked Baggage allowance and can be carried free if the passenger’s total Checked Baggage is within the entitled allowance; and
  • when carried in addition to the entitled allowance, excess and/or oversize Baggage charges apply.
